Hello everybody! This is Cruiser!

I have been busy. Have you been busy? I was diagnosed with something called Cushing's Disease last year. It sounds scary but it is not so bad. Did you know that people can get Cushing's Disease too? It is true! Fortunately there is medication and it helps me feel a lot better. I do have to go to the vet a lot though. I am a real good boy there. Everyone knows me and likes me and says hello. They all say I am real good!

Here is a picture of me at the vet:
Cruiser is so good at the vet!

I am glad I have my special medicines now because I feel so much better. I used to have to drink a lot and pee a lot and now I feel normal again. Also medicine comes in something called pill pockets which are very tasty! I do not know if you have had them but they are good! Mommy and Daddy say they smell gross but that is silly. They are missing out!

One bad thing about the Cushing's Disease is that my back legs are a lot weaker. I have to get exercise every day and I like going for walks so that is nice, but the vet says I cannot go on real long walks any more. That is too bad because I liked going for long hikes in the park. Momma and Zorro and I would go for miles and miles in the park! There were lots of ponds and streams to visit while we hiked and I had such a good time and sometimes we would play fetch too! Momma says we can still go on shorter walks though and there is a pond nearby that we found last year. Since Zorro has his own pond at the big park I can have this pond! Momma says we can call it Cruiser Pond! I like it there a whole lot. It is good for swimming and for fetching and sometimes I meet other dogs there who are real nice.

It is warming up so I hope we can go to the pond soon! Do you have a pond? I hope you have a nice pond where you live too so you can go swimming! Swimming is the BEST!

Love,
Cruiser!

Hello everyone! This is Zorro! Have you missed me? I am sure you have missed me. I have missed you!

Things have been very busy here. Unfortunately both Cruiser and Momma were ill but they are better now mostly and that is good. I have had to take a larger part in running the house. It is a lot of responsibility. It is good that I am a very capable animal.

This is a picture of me from last summer. As you can see I am in my yard near the woodpile. I am resting in a freshly-dug hole. It is a nice way to spend a summer afternoon! Recently Mommy and I read this article about dogs digging holes: "How to stop a dog from digging". I have one thing to say: PFUI! I like digging holes! It is fun and I get exercise and I provide a valuable service! I have uncovered MANY valuable fieldstones this way, and I have also pulled up roots of the invasive Oriental Bittersweet plant. Also this is MY yard and I will do as I wish! So PFUI!

Yours truly,
Mister Zorro

It is a Cruiser update from Cruiser!

Hello everybody this is Cruiser! I am saying hi! Hi!

Zorro said that he told you I had been ill but that I am better now. And I am all better so do not worry!

Earlier this year I had a hurty toe. It hurt a lot and was all swollen. At first they thought I just had an infection but do you know what. It turned out to be a toe tumor! I had never heard of a toe tumor and neither had Mommy and Daddy but that is what I had. They had to amputate my toe, which means they had to cut it off during a surgery while I was asleep. It did not hurt though!

I am missing my outer toe on one of my front feet but it has not slowed me down! Also I do not miss it because it was real hurty for a long time and I do better without it. Momma says my fetching has gotten even better too! Also I think I will finally catch a chipmunk this year. I am real good at chasing them.

I have not had a foot bandage for a long time but Mommy said I should show you a picture of me with a bandage. I had it changed on Valentine's Day so they put a special heart on it. Momma and Daddy said I looked very cute and sweet with my fancy bandage! I was already feeling a lot better by then too!

Love,
Cruiser!

Hello again Internet!

Hello everyone! Have you missed me? I am sure you have missed me. I am too handsome not to miss.

Things have been very busy here over the last several months. Both Mommy and Cruiser have been ill. I am happy to say that they are both doing much better but I have had to help Daddy run the household. I am sure he would be quite lost without me.

Fortunately Momma has kept up with taking my picture. See how handsome I am! I am fourteen this year, did you know? I had my full checkup at the vet and they did special tests for seniors and aside from some arthritis I am the very picture of health!

As I said both Momma and Cruiser are doing better so please do not worry. I will let Cruiser write his own post to tell you all about his adventures.

I hope you are all having a nice start to your summer. Currently I feel it is too hot. Also Daddy keeps cutting the grass just when it gets long enough for snacking! It is not fair.

Yours truly,ZORRO

Hello everyone. It is I, Zorro, and I have endured a most distressing time!

As you know I live in Massachusetts and we had an unusual snow storm last weekend. Hundreds of thousands of people lost power and even though the storm was on Saturday and it is Thursday now some people still do not have power!

Our power went out on Saturday evening and I was scared. I do not like the noise the things in the house make when the power goes out. It made me nervous. Also it was windy outside, and branches and trees were falling down! It was worse than it was when we had the hurricane here! (Momma says it was just a bad storm when it got here but the news said it was a hurricane so THERE, Mommy.)

Momma said it was too dangerous for us to walk the next day because of all the downed trees and brush but we went for a walk on Monday and it was very bad! There were lots of downed power lines and some had even snapped in two! We could see that lots of other people did not have power either.

It got dark early and it was cold at night. Fortunately we still had water and we had foods and at night Daddy made a fire in our fireplace to keep the house warm. Mommy and Daddy had flashlights and they would light candles in the living room and Mommy would read stories out loud. I liked that. It is soothing when Mommy reads out loud. Sometimes we would listen to the radio too.

The power finally came back on last night and now the furnace is working again and there are lights in the house at night and my people can use the fridge again. It is good to have electricity back. I celebrated by digging a new hole in the backyard! It is going to be a very nice hole. Also I had to dig a new one because the tree that holds one end of my run was damaged and Daddy said he may need to cut it down. My run may change its course and also I think I should have more holes farther from trees. I will not abandon my old holes, though.

Hello everyone! It is I, Zorro, your King!I have had a mostly pleasant summer. There was too much rain but I did get to play outside a lot so it was not so bad. I have done a lot of work on my holes, too. You may recall that I found two large fieldstones in the course of my diggings! I was very proud and my people were proud too because Daddy plans to use the fieldstones in our yard for projects.

I am a very professional digger--I always dig neat and tidy holes and I like to dig with purpose. Sometimes my purpose is to get out my extra energy and other times I just want a cool place to relax outside. But I was very pleased with the fieldstones I found and I wanted to find more! Unfortunately I was only finding small fieldstones so like a professional I decided to expand my operations. I began to dig more deeply in my current holes, and I also did exploratory digging in some new hole locations. The results have been good! I have found medium-sized fieldstones and also a few more large ones! I have been very productive. My people say I am a very good hole-digger.

If you need a hole dug in your yard I hope you will think of me. I like to dig and as you have seen I am very good at it. Also I would like to dig in some new yards. Momma will not let me but I do not think it is fair because there are lots of fieldstones around here and I bet other people want to find fieldstones in their own yards! Mommy thinks she knows everything. Harrumph.

Hi everybody! This is Cruiser! Did you have a good summer? I had a very nice summer and now it is fall! It is time to hunt chipmunks!

I still have not caught any chipmunks yet but I am pretty sure I can this year! There are two who hide under the back steps and I look for them all the time. I am not sure what I am supposed to do if I catch a chipmunk though. I think maybe I am supposed to play with it? Do you think they play fetch? Zorro says I am supposed to bring it home and present it to the family to show I am a good hunter but I think maybe I should play with it.

Love,
Cruiser!

I am brave!

Hello everyone! I am Cruiser and I have important news. I found out early this year that I have something called kidney disease. At first I just had a thing called a urinary tract infection which meant I peed a lot and had accidents but then it turned out I had the kidney disease. The vet says I am in the early stages though and I am doing very well! I have a special food and special medicines. Sometimes I have to make trips to the vet with Momma and they steal my pee. Mommy says they are taking urine samples to test but they are stealing my pee! It is true! I do not know why they steal my pee.

Everyone at the vet says I am a real good boy! I am always happy to see them and Daddy says I am always on my best behavior. Everyone at the vet likes me and is glad to see me! I do not like going into the exam rooms any more, though. I like the lobby better. They have treats and lots of people to pet me in the lobby!

It is not good to have the kidney disease but I still feel real good and the vet says I am in good shape and I will be around for a long time! So do not worry! But you could send me treats and tennis balls if you wanted to because I do like those things!

Love,
Cruiser!

Hello everyone! It is Independence Day here but it is an important day for another reason too. It is my birthday! I am thirteen!

As you can see I am still extremely handsome. I had my check-up at the vet recently and you will be happy to know that I am the very picture of health! I do have a bit of arthritis but it is not bad. It just means I do not like to jump very much like I used to, and I prefer to use an ottoman to get on the couch and special doggie-stairs to get on the big bed. These helpful items are appropriate to my station as King, I think.

We got peanut butter bones today because it was my birthday and also because there was a parade outside that made scary noises. Peanut butter bones are very tasty and Momma sat with me while I had mine. It was nice. I also got to play in my yard after dinner, like in the picture. I am enjoying the summer and I hope you are too! Since I am thirteen now and also King I have decided that for my birthday I should get veto power. I have learned about veto power on the news and it means that if Momma or Daddy want to do something I can make a veto and that means they cannot do it. So if Daddy wants to make loud noises with his saws I can say, "No! VETO POWER!" and then he will have to stay inside and only do quiet things instead. Or if Mommy wants to go to her job I can say "No! VETO POWER!" and then she will have to stay home and snuggle me.

I will try out my new veto power tomorrow when Daddy tries to leave for work without me. Won't he be surprised!

I am productive!

Since I have had so much time to dig, I have made several useful discoveries. Recently I uncovered two large fieldstones in one of my favorite holes. Daddy is going to make things OUTSIDE (where it is okay to make scary noises sometimes) with fieldstones so I have been helpful. I am very clever.
